First Dr. Visit Post Op

So all week long I have been looking forward to visiting my doctor on today. Today is actually 3 days past my actual 1 week surgery, but I guess it was due to the weekend.

Anyway...the visit was far from thrilling. My appointment was for 3:15 but I didn't see the doctor until well after 4...also 4:20ish.

So after waiting for over an hour, I'm promptly weighed. Thus, according to the office scale I'm 259.9, down 13 pounds since my pre-op visit 18 days ago. So 13lbs...not bad for at all.

Into the exam room I go.
Laying on the table the doctors feels around my tummy area making sure things are good.
Unfortunately they are not completely ok.
See...I was given this elastic wrap to wear around my waist. Initially it was very painful not to wear the wrap, but once my wounds healed I didn't seem to need it very much.
There was nothing in my doctors papers that said to keep it on...or at least I don't recall reading such information. So, I stopped wearing it. I'm thinking it was last Wednesday at least. Now had I had a 7 day doctor appointment I wouldn't have went and extra 3 days without it.

Anyway because I haven't been wearing the wrap, the port to fill my band is slightly twisted. Now I've on prescription to wear the wrap for another 7 days.

After the quick tummy exam the doctor removes what's left of the stitches from the 4 incisions.

I sit up and the nurse gives me my new mushies diet. I can now eat actual food for the first time in 10 days. WHOOHOO.

I walk out of the office in all of 10 minutes. That's just soo wrong.

So armed with my new list of foods I can eat I go straight to the grocery store.

Once inside I realize that I already have most of the food items LOL.

Only thing missing is MEAT...MEAT...MEAT...
WOW...do I want to eat some MEAT!!!!!!

Only meat I can have is sliced deli (turkey, ham, etc) and fish (tuna and baked).
So I get the ultra thin deli meat, turkey, ham and roast beef. I also got some Salmon. Boy do I love Salmon. Just bake it, with a little seasoning...boy-o-boy is it good!

After arriving home, I promptly opened a can of sardines. I put 1 of the 3 on a plate and refrigerate the rest. I've been eating it while typing this blog entry. It's been about 20 minutes, and I'm feeling full even though I'm eaten only about 1/3 of the baby sardine.

Well that's my visit...Now to do the laundry...

1 week Post Op...

So today starts my 2nd week since getting my Lap Band surgery on July 24th.

Pain has been consistent but no severe. Having liquid hydrocodone makes things all better.
For a while I was following the instructions to a tee and not taking the meds but every 4 hours as instructed. However, the pain was a bit persistent at times, making things for me slightly miserable. So now, I take it when I feel pain, sometimes it's 4 hours, sometimes it's 2. The benefit of this is that I'm more active throughout the day because I'm not sitting around mopping because I'm in pain.

Scaring...whoa! The surgery was performed laparoscopic so I have 4 minor scars. 3 are very small about the size of a sweet pea. The last one is a thin line about 2 inches in length. On Monday, being paranoid about bad scaring, I saw a dermatologist. Apparently the largest scar was inflamed. So the dr. ordered me a prescription strength antibiotic ointment. Applied it 2-3 times a day and by Wednesday the scar was no longer open and inflamed.

Food....What food. LOL!
The diet for the first two weeks post op is clear liquids. Pretty bland. I'm not sure if I'm following all the rules as all my liquids are not clear. My diet has been slightly diluted yogurt smoothies, chicken & beef broth, Isopure liquid and power protein, and WonderSlim shakes.
Occasionally I'll have a Popsicle. Not much option for variety, so I'm very glad that I have only 1 more week of this...

Fitness...Walking Walking Walking...
Can't do much fitness wise but walk. So now I walk the dog. Usually once a day in the morning before Houston's heat takes over. On Wednesday, I was so excited that I did a full 30 minute walk at a pretty moderate pace. By mid evening I was hurting, so now I'm taking it easy. Only walked for about 10 minutes.

Happy Birthday to ME

So it's my birthday today...well it will be by the time I finish typing this first blog.

However it is now 12am, and I have a long day tomorrow.

Must work, finish my final pre-op blood work and get my place ready for a little dinner party I've thrown for myself and invited a special family and friends.

They have no idea (well most of them don't) but I'm going to tell them all that I'm scheduled for Lap Band Surgery this Thursday, July 24th 2008.

To be continued...
